Automotive Technology Foundations (20104G1011)

Automotive Technology Foundations is designed to equip students with basic knowledge and skills regarding safety, engine repair, automatic transmissions, and manual drive trains. A major focus of this course is system and component operations. Standards are designed to equip students to diagnose and repair engine performance related systems. This course is the foundation for all other automotive technology courses.

Auto Brake, Suspension, and Steering Repair 1 (20104G1012)

Automotive Brake, Suspension, and Steering Repair I is designed to equip students with foundational knowledge and skills regarding automotive suspension, steering, and brake systems. Strong emphasis is placed on system and component operations. Standards are designed to equip students to diagnose and repair engine performance related systems. This course incorporates personal and environmental safety practices associated with clothing, eye protection, hand tools, power equipment, ventilation, and material/chemical handling. Local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations will be followed.    PREREQUISITE: None     CAMPUSES OFFERED - ACTC

 

Automotive Electrical Components 1 (20104G1013)

Automotive Electrical Components I is designed to equip students with foundational knowledge and skills regarding safety, electrical, and electronics systems. Standards are designed to equip students to diagnose and repair engine performance related electrical systems. This course incorporates personal and environmental safety practices associated with clothing, eye protection, hand tools, power equipment, ventilation, and the handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and materials in accordance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.

Auto Engine Repair and Performance 1 (20104G1014)

Automotive Engine Repair & Performance I is designed to equip students with foundational knowledge and skills regarding safety, engines, and engine performance. Standards are designed to equip students to diagnose and repair engine performance related systems. This course incorporates personal and environmental safety practices associated with clothing, eye protection, hand tools, power equipment, ventilation, and the handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and materials in accordance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations. Prior Automotive Technology courses collectively meet the requirements for the ASE Education Foundation MLR accreditation and prepare students for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) student credential. These three courses may be taken in any order after completion of Automotive Technology Foundations. Content standards are written to meet Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation requirements, which also specify task lists, program hours, and safety standards.

Dual Enrollment Automotive requires one class period.  Each class meets for one semester.  Classes are offered on alternating years.  Students may take all six classes over a three year period and earn two short certifications from Trenholm Community College in Brakes/Steering/Suspension and in Engines. 

 

Dual Enrollment Fundamentals of Automotive Technology ASE 101 (20149C1015)

Dual Enrollment Braking Systems ASE 121 (20149C1017)

This one-credit course provides instruction in automotive technology or auto mechanics. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of brakes. This is a CORE course.

Dual Enrollment Steering and Suspension ASE 122 (20149C1018)

This one-credit course provides instruction in automotive technology or auto mechanics. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of steering and suspension. This is a CORE course.

Dual Enrollment Automotive Engines ASE 124 (20149C1019)

Fee: NONE ..............................................................................................................Grades:  10-12

This course provides instruction on the operation, design, and superficial repair of automotive engines.  Emphasis is placed on understanding the four-stroke cycle, intake and exhaust manifolds and related parts, engine mechanical timing components, engine cooling and lubrication system principles and repairs, and basic fuel and ignition operation.  This is a CORE course.

Dual Enrollment Advanced Automotive Engines ASE 220(20149C1033)

Fee: NONE ..............................................................................................................Grades:  10-12

This course provides in-depth instruction concerning internal engine diagnosis, overhaul and repair, including but not necessarily limited to the replacement of timing chains, belts, and gears, as well as the replacement or reconditioning of valve train components as well as replacement of pistons, connecting rods, piston rings, bearings, lubrication system components, gaskets, and oil seals.

Dual Enrollment Manual Transmission/Transaxle AUM 224 (20149C1034)

Fee: NONE ..............................................................................................................Grades:  10-12

This course covers basic instruction in manual transmission and transaxles.  Emphasis is placed on the understanding and application of basic internal and external operation relating to proper operation and drivability.
